After a disappointing season for Auburn in my eyes at least, we turn to look at their departing prospects.
Center Joe Cope, #50 is a free agent that will provide depth during training camp but lacks size and strength to stick for more than a few weeks in camp.
Backer #21 Karibi Dede should move to Safety in the pros but lacks the speed to do so and is another camp body.
Tim Duckworth #76, a Guard is a solid prospect that has a middle 3rd round grade and shouldn't move too far from that in the coming months. Duckworth is a good run blocker that can also anchor in pass protection. He certainly has some flaws(leverage and balance) that will keep him down but he is certainly good enough to develop into a starter in the NFL.
Ben Grubbs, #69, the Left Guard has vaulted to the top of my board and has received a first round grade and a very high one at that. Grubbs has a chance to be the highest player on the board when it is all said and done. Grubbs has a good body with strength and excellent athletic ability. A former FB in high school, Grubbs shows great ability to block on the move. He doesn't give ground in pass pro and is the all around player.
DE Marquise Gunn, #48 is a nice player but doesn't offer any rush and is adequate at the POA. Gunn is around 260 and his best chance is to bulk up to around 290 to play the 34 end.
Safety Will Herring moved in the box to backer this season but is best suited to move back to Safety in the pros. Herring has a free agent grade at the moment and his less than ideal athletic ability will likely keep him out of the draft. He is a leader and gives his all on the field that he may be able to stick somewhere as a speical teamer.
David Irons, #4, at Cornerback is a good man coverage player but offers nothing in terms of run support. He will play physical at the LOS and in coverage but is very light on his feet and will be dominated by bigger players. Irons has a late 3rd round grade at the moment.
David's brother, Kenny Irons a running back(#23) currently has a 2nd round grade. Despite a statistical drop off, Irons has great ability to be a solid NFL back. He has good size and speed and shows vision and toughness when he runs. He isn't a game breaker that can create on his own but he runs with good forward lean and takes what he can. Irons will make you miss in the open field and he also catches the ball relatively well out of the backfield.
#79 Jonathan Palmer is an all-around OL that played OT for most of 2006. He is a big body but lacks quickness and strength. He is a late 7th round value.
Courtney Taylor, WR #86, is a nice athlete with decent size but he doesn't catch the ball with his hands all that well. Taylor though runs nice routes and doesn't lose speed in and out of his breaks. If Taylor can show good hands at his workout he should keep his first day grade. Taylor is also an excellent blocker.
